How to create and test a Wi-Fi QR code

Prepare a Wi-Fi QR code with the correct network name, password and security type, then test it safely before sharing.

Collect the network details carefully

You need the exact network name, the password and the security type. Network names and passwords are case-sensitive. A hidden network must also be marked correctly. One incorrect character can make the connection fail.

Avoid exposing a sensitive main network

For visitors, events or customers, consider using a guest network with appropriate limits instead of publishing the password for an internal network. Follow your organisation’s security policy before creating or displaying a Wi-Fi code.

Create the code

1. Open the QR tab.
2. Select Wi-Fi.
3. Enter the SSID exactly as configured.
4. Enter the password.
5. Select the matching security type.
6. Mark the network as hidden only when it is actually hidden.

Test more than one phone

Scan the code with at least two devices when possible. Confirm that the phone proposes the correct network and that the connection completes. Testing is especially important when the password contains punctuation or spaces.

Place the code responsibly

Do not display the code where unintended visitors can photograph it unless public access is acceptable. Replace the displayed code when the guest password changes.

Print with good contrast

Use a plain light background, a clear margin and a size suitable for the scanning distance. SVG is useful when the sign will be designed or resized by another person.
