PNG is a fixed grid of pixels

PNG is widely supported and easy to insert into documents, presentations and many label applications. It works well when created at the final size or at a resolution high enough for the intended use. Enlarging a small PNG can soften edges and reduce scanning reliability.

SVG is a vector description

SVG stores shapes rather than a fixed pixel grid. It can normally be resized without making the bars or QR modules blurry. This makes it useful for professional printing, design software and labels that may be produced at several sizes.

When to choose PNG

  • The receiving application does not accept SVG.
  • The image will be used at a known fixed size.
  • You need a quick file for a document or message.

When to choose SVG

  • The code may be resized.
  • The artwork will be sent to a designer or printer.
  • You want crisp edges at different output resolutions.

Do not rely on the file type alone

A perfect vector file can still fail if it is printed too small, with low contrast or without enough clear margin. A high-resolution PNG can scan perfectly when it is used correctly. File type is one part of the complete print workflow.

Recommended workflow

Keep an SVG master for printing and resizing. Export a PNG copy when another system requires it. Test the final printed label after every substantial size or material change.
